Get Well Soon Basket!

So I don't know about you but when I am sick.....it seems like SUCH an inconvenience and it's got to be SUPER SICK to get me to actually take down time and relax!  Well, when the SUPER SICK happens -- it feels good to have people care about you!

My good friend and exercise partner in crime recently got sick - SUPER SICK!  I wanted to help in some way and felt so tied at the hands as we all often do when wanting to help.  I myself don't usually even TAKE help when offered and I KNOW  I'm not the only one.  Well THIS time...I wanted to make sure my friend at least knew how much I love her while she is down with Pnemonia!

I pulled this together without going to the store...only because I keep most of this stuff on hand...FOR JUST THIS REASON!

I started with a basket I had around the house and a tea cup and saucer.  My mom broke a tea cup out of this set and was getting rid of the rest of the set at our garage sale so I snatched them up!  I had NO idea what I would do thought I would figure something out!

Add a few tea bags wrapped in wax paper and some left over ribbon I had around the house...  

Next, I pulled out my tags left over from my SPICE GARDEN IN THE KITCHEN project and wrote a simple 'Get Well Soon' on the front.  On the back I just did the traditional TO/From and filled in the info.

I just tied it on the front of the basket with the same left over ribbon I used for the tea bags.

I decided to put a loaf of bread in the bread machine since it goes so well with tea...and I had a new recipe with dried cranberries I wanted to try anyway.  The bread loaf came out BEAUTIFUL!  (And from what I hear...delicious)

I just wrapped it in wax paper like I did the tea bags...and tied with the same ribbon!

NOW...what goes with bread and tea??  JAM!  But what in the world would I put it IN???

Question of the day...."What can I do with an empty BABY FOOD jar and a can of CHALK BOARD PAINT"??

Why fill it with JAM of course!  I ABSOUTELY LOOOOOVE HOW THIS TURNED OUT!  Adorned with the same left over ribbon of course......

Line your basket with tissue paper and then place everything in the basket and --- there you have it!

Regrets:  Next Time I would....

1)  Add some fresh flowers to match the ribbon and in neutral colors (it needs life)

2)  I would use tea bags without wrappers...maybe fresh tea leaves put in tea bags at home

3)  I would add Honey Sticks.  You can get them cheap...I might just hang on to some for future reference.

All in all -- it was the thought that counted I guess but I am truly happy my dear friend Kim is feeling better finally!

Moss Covered Elephant

Moss Covered Elephant!

So I KNEW I wanted to do SOMETHING else with that MOSS that I used last week on my CANDLE CABANA that you can access here.  And I've seen ideas ALL over blog land about using MOSS for different things.  

We had this wooden elephant sculpture that we have had FOREVER it seems like.  My husband and I have ALWAYS loved it because elephants are supposed to represent 'Family'.  So I thought hey....as I was sitting in my living room scoping out WHAT I COULD COVER WITH MOSS....this might look SUPER COOL!

And....here's what I started with.  

(My baby was down for a nap so I started immediately when I thought of it!)

As I was heating up my hot glue gun I started looking at the DETAILS of this elephant and started to wonder how this was gonna work....:0  Was it even going to LOOK like an elephant when I was done??

But when I started attaching the moss, I realized it was SUPER FORGIVING and molded right into the next piece and whatever shape I wanted.  

I cut small strips of the moss and kept attaching it with the hot glue and you couldn't even tell where one piece met the next!  It was awesome!  (I did however burn my fingers MULTIPLE TIMES on this project pressing the moss into the hot glue...well worth it I think though)

Then...I WAS DONE!  It took me about a half an hour and my five year old son is my biggest fan!

Candle Cabana

I really am not sure what it WAS, but NOW it's a Candle Cabana!)


So the same day my mom and I went out 'junking' (I talked about this in a previous post...click here for the story) we also got this!  Not sure what it was...maybe a bird feeder or something but it had HUGE potential so I grabbed it.

I always thought we might fight over wanting the same thing, but that has never happened!


It was UGLY...

 So I gathered a few supplies.  Some scissors, craft moss (I had envisioned a moss roof), my hot glue gun and a can of craft spray paint I had in the garage.  I grabbed the Elmer's glue too thinking I might use that...wasn't sure about what glue would work best.

Painted it....two coats drying inbetween.

 Then started attaching the moss.  I actually cut a hole in the top and fit it over the center piece on top and then worked on gluing it in place.  Trimmed off the excess moss and it was pretty much done!

Painted a quick detail line on the bottom...it was too plain, and then it was done!

Here's a FUNNY - I went to put a votive candle with it's holder in it...and it didn't FIT through the opening!  I was soooo mad, but a little tea light cup fit perfect so I regained my composure. :)

Not Just a Housewife

Zebra Print Table Runner and Tray

Zebra Print Table Runner....And Tray too!

So...I wanted a new table runner for my dining room table and as I mentioned before, I'm trying to add more GREEN!  I saw this fabric at the fabric store and I LOVED IT!  Had to have it!

Bought a couple tassels to match...and I was in business!

I used a table runner I already had for measurements....

I trimmed up around the edges leaving about 1/4" to hem

And the finished product!  Added a couple tassels and I was done in about 30 minutes!  LOVE IT!

Zebra Tray

So I had some left over fabric and I wanted to cover the bottom of this tray I have had forever.  Just wanted to give it some interest.  But I didn't have a BIG enough piece to cover it soooo.....

I DECOUPAGED WITH FABRIC STRIPS!

So I grabbed a bottle of Elmer's glue left over from 'school supplies' from years ago...

Added some water....

Started dipping the fabric strips into the glue and lining the bottom of the tray.

 Then....I let it dry and it was EXACTLY what I was hoping for!
