Framed Monogram Gift

I made this gift for a friend of mine on her birthday!  She was newly married and so I thought this might be something she could enjoy for years to come.  You could customize this and change ANY of the elements to give it a different look, plus you could give it for an Anniversary...a Birthday....a Christmas Gift.  The possibilities are endless!

I started with a few supplies. 

Picture Frame 8x10 (I bought inexpensively)

Brown Craft (or postal) paper (you could use a fabric or burlap for texture)

Crafting Moss (you could use a designer paper instead)

Letter printed on regular paper (I made it in word art...you pick font & letter)

Glue Stick

Scissors

Tag (left over from another project)

Little mini brads for embellishments

Black ink pen

Sting or rope

I started by cutting out a piece of the brown postal/craft paper the exact size of the glass so I had something to work with.

The paper kept trying to curl on me so I adhered it to the picture frame back board.  If you used a thick card stock type paper you wouldn't have this issue. 

Next, I cut out my letter or 'Monogram' and laid it out on the back of the moss I was using for my Monogram design.  I traced it onto the moss so it would be easy to cut out.  ***Remember to trace it with your letter upside down since you are on the back side of the designer paper (or moss in this case) that you want to use.

And.....place it where you want it on the craft paper.  DON'T GLUE IT DOWN YET THOUGH!  You may want to move things around when you add the tag and embellishments.

Now...for the tag.  I have these left over tags from many other projects so I decided to use it.  I wanted to embellish it though so I decided to stud the corners with these mini scrap booking brads I saw at the store.  I pre-made the holes with the tip of a knife to make it easier to insert the brads where I wanted them.

They are soooo little...and soooo cute! 

LOVE the look!





















 Then I wrote with a black ink pen 'Est. 2010'.  This is the year she was married, so this is the year that 'B' became her Monogram.  If you were doing for someone younger you could do the first initial of the first name.  For example....and H for Heather and then the tag could say 'Est. 1997' or whatever year they were born.

 Next I tied knots in the end of each side of some string I had and frayed the ends.  I looped the tag around the letter 'B' and played with it until I like the placement.  THEN....I carefully glued everything down.

















Then I placed it in the frame....and WAaaaa LAAAAAA!

So I don't know about you but when I am sick.....it seems like SUCH an inconvenience and it's got to be SUPER SICK to get me to actually take down time and relax!  Well, when the SUPER SICK happens -- it feels good to have people care about you!

My good friend and exercise partner in crime recently got sick - SUPER SICK!  I wanted to help in some way and felt so tied at the hands as we all often do when wanting to help.  I myself don't usually even TAKE help when offered and I KNOW  I'm not the only one.  Well THIS time...I wanted to make sure my friend at least knew how much I love her while she is down with Pnemonia!

I pulled this together without going to the store...only because I keep most of this stuff on hand...FOR JUST THIS REASON!

I started with a basket I had around the house and a tea cup and saucer.  My mom broke a tea cup out of this set and was getting rid of the rest of the set at our garage sale so I snatched them up!  I had NO idea what I would do thought I would figure something out!

Add a few tea bags wrapped in wax paper and some left over ribbon I had around the house...  

Next, I pulled out my tags left over from my SPICE GARDEN IN THE KITCHEN project and wrote a simple 'Get Well Soon' on the front.  On the back I just did the traditional TO/From and filled in the info.

I just tied it on the front of the basket with the same left over ribbon I used for the tea bags.

I decided to put a loaf of bread in the bread machine since it goes so well with tea...and I had a new recipe with dried cranberries I wanted to try anyway.  The bread loaf came out BEAUTIFUL!  (And from what I hear...delicious)

I just wrapped it in wax paper like I did the tea bags...and tied with the same ribbon!

NOW...what goes with bread and tea??  JAM!  But what in the world would I put it IN???

Question of the day...."What can I do with an empty BABY FOOD jar and a can of CHALK BOARD PAINT"??

Why fill it with JAM of course!  I ABSOUTELY LOOOOOVE HOW THIS TURNED OUT!  Adorned with the same left over ribbon of course......

Line your basket with tissue paper and then place everything in the basket and --- there you have it!

Regrets:  Next Time I would....

1)  Add some fresh flowers to match the ribbon and in neutral colors (it needs life)

2)  I would use tea bags without wrappers...maybe fresh tea leaves put in tea bags at home

3)  I would add Honey Sticks.  You can get them cheap...I might just hang on to some for future reference.

All in all -- it was the thought that counted I guess but I am truly happy my dear friend Kim is feeling better finally!

So tonight...my 5 year old son GRADUATES from Preschool and will move onto kindergarten in the fall.  Sniff, Sniff, tear...tear.  So bitter sweet, my boy is growing up.  

But he has had the most AWESOME year with two AMAZING Preschool teachers!  I wanted to let them know how much they are appreciated. Sooo.....I came up with this simple, easy yet thoughtful inexpensive gift for each of them. 

I sprayed TWO pots with CHALKBOARD PAINT (spray) -- click here for your own....

I made a tag for each of them with a CRAFT stick, two identical tags I had left from another project and some glue sticks.  I just wrote - THANK YOU on each one and attached a rope to the tag hole.

I personalized each one by writing the last name of each teacher on the pots in chalk.  Then put an inexpensive plant in each one.

I HOPE they like them and know how appreciated they are!!!
